Australia vs New Zealand – Tasman Shield International Jousting Tournament
April 1 - April 2
Australia’s bitter rivalry with New Zealand has moved off the rugby field, cricket pitch and netball court and gone medieval.
International medieval jousting is coming to Victoria for the inaugural Tasman Shield International Jousting Tournament at Ballarat’s Kryal Castle. The tournament will see Victoria’s very own world beating jouster Phillip Leitch and his protégé Cliff Marisma take on New Zealand’s medieval best including veteran jouster Jezz Smith and female knight, Victoria Subritzky.
As historical jousting as a sport gains ground in Australia, the Tasman Shield is the first tournament on the 2017 calendar. This style of jousting is world-renown for its historical accuracy, from the 15th century replica protective armour worn by the jousters to the rules of the joust, the tournament showcases jousting as it was during the medieval era.
The Tasman Shield is a family-friendly event held on the first weekend of the school holidays (1-2 April 2017) at Kryal Castle. The Castle will also host a historical ground combat, birds of prey, torture chamber tours, medieval crafts, medieval food and drink, a maze and plenty of kids’ activities.
