Summer Sundays – Week 2

January 14 @ 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm

One of Ballarat’s most popular events – Summer Sundays – will turn up the volume in January 2018 with a fantastic line-up of Australian musical talent.

From jazz to rock’n’roll to folk music, each Sunday will feature four acts. Held in the beautiful surrounds of the Ballarat Botanical Gardens, this FREE community event is presented by the City of Ballarat.

Week 2 – Sunday 14 January

Music Line-up:

Australian-based musician Jeff Lang has earned worldwide acclaim as a virtuosic guitarist, a dynamic songwriter and a startlingly unique live performer. With a back catalogue of 16 studio albums, Jeff has been featured at major festivals, pubs, clubs, arts centres and venues internationally for the past decade. Blending rock, roots, folk, blues, ballads, instrumentals, improvisation and a devastatingly high level of musicality, Jeff Lang is a singularly unique performer in our world.

Lazenby Young Blues Guitarist of the Year, MBAS Blues Challenge Finalist and BCs Best ‘Songwriter of the Year’ Rhiannon Simpson has been flooring audiences with her brand of modern, guitar driven blues since 2013. Her aggressive vocal style and virtuosic guitar work saw her play with some of Australia’s finest musicians including Geoff Achison, Joe Camilleri and Jimi Hocking. After receiving an invite to live, study and play in Boston, MA, Simpson began touring the states in May of 2017; being invited to perform at venues such as Kingston Mines (Chicago), B.B Kings (New Orleans) SoulShine (Nashville) and The Haskell Opera House (Vermont)

What do you get when nine of Victoria’s most exciting young musicians get together to form a band? You get Butterfunked!
Formed in 2017, Butterfunked, 5 female / 4 male band, has been taking the region by storm.
Ballarat’s own Butterfunked is sure to knock your socks off with their funky rhythms, killer horn section, cool vocals and original music.

Sam Boon is a Ballarat saxophonist, pianist, arranger and composer currently based in Melbourne. Having graced the stages of some of the world’s finest venues and festivals, the Sam Boon Hammond Trio promise to bring a high energy soul party with Olaf Scott (Sakwatch, Dorsal Fins) on Hammond and Matt Gibson on Drums.
Performances include playing alongside Guy Sebastian, (horn section leader and arranger) Saskwatch (2008-2015), Vance Joy, The Rubens, and has supported bands and artists such as Earth Wind and Fire, The Cat Empire, Sharon Jones and the Dapkings and Maceo Parker.
